llms.txt for Shopify
llms.txt is an emerging way to give AI systems a concise map of your most important pages, product context, policies, and educational content.
Shopify already manages /agents.md for every store; /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt mirror it by default. For most stores, keep that managed default. An existing file is not evidence that a separate app or custom template is needed.
Use templates/agents.md.liquid to customize all three agent-discovery routes. Use templates/llms.txt.liquid only when /llms.txt needs different content. These templates expose only agents and request; standard shop and collections objects are unavailable.
The free generator and category templates can help draft a content map. Check it against the managed file, replace example links with actual public resources and keep custom content current. A draft is not proof of deployment or AI-platform use.
After publishing a custom template, visit the affected root URLs and check populated values and working links. Shopify serves these files on the bare primary domain without localized or Markets subfolder versions. Use the documented agents object rather than unsupported catalog loops.
