What is llms.txt?#

Зачем появился llms.txt#

Shopping discovery is moving from classic search results to AI answers. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google AI Overviews must decide which stores to cite. They can only do that well when they understand what the store sells, who it serves, and which pages are authoritative.

• robots.txt controls access but does not explain importance.
• sitemap.xml lists URLs but not priority or meaning.
• Shopify themes can bury product signal under navigation, scripts, variants, and recommendations.

llms.txt adds a curated, human-readable layer for AI grounding.

What an llms.txt file looks like#

A typical file has a brand H1, a summary blockquote, short context, and H2 sections of important links with descriptions.

On Shopify, /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt mirror /agents.md by default. A separate expanded file requires an explicit override.

llms.txt vs sitemap.xml vs robots.txt#

What goes inside a Shopify llms.txt file#

1. Store overview#

State the brand, what it sells, who it serves, and why it is different in one to three sentences.

2. Featured products or collections#

Do not list every SKU. List best sellers, flagship products, defining collections, and high-value categories. Ten to thirty links is enough for most stores.

3. Buying guides and educational content#

Include comparison, sizing, care, ingredient, style, and “how to choose” content because AI engines use it to answer shopping questions.

4. FAQs#

FAQ pages are easy for AI systems to quote because they already use a question-and-answer format.

5. Policies#

Shipping, returns, sizing, warranty, subscriptions, and international availability are frequent AI shopping questions.

6. About and brand context#

Add pages about sustainability, local manufacturing, certifications, founder story, or other differentiators that influence buying decisions.

Avoid every product, admin URLs, pages you do not want surfaced, and empty marketing copy. llms.txt is curation, not completeness.

3. В этих шаблонах доступны только agents и request, но не shop или collections. Используйте поля agents и поддерживаемые статические ссылки без перебора каталога.

Использование ИИ и сроки результатов#

Не все ИИ-платформы читают файл или используют его для ранжирования товаров. Подтверждённых сроков результата нет. Поддерживайте доступные страницы, точные данные и полезные руководства, наблюдая переходы и цитирования.

Согласно Google, для AI Overviews и AI Mode у проиндексированных страниц с разрешёнными сниппетами нет дополнительных технических требований. Собственный llms.txt не обязателен. Google Search Central ↗.

Частые вопросы#

Shopify создаёт llms.txt автоматически?#

Да. Shopify предоставляет управляемый файл. Заменяйте его только для конкретных дополнительных требований и обновляйте замену самостоятельно.

Нужен ли свой llms.txt при наличии schema?#

Не обязательно. Структурированные данные и файлы агентов решают разные задачи. Без особых требований достаточно стандартного файла; ни один вариант не гарантирует рекомендаций ИИ.

Как работают llms-full.txt и языковые версии?#

/llms.txt и /llms-full.txt по умолчанию повторяют /agents.md. Файлы доступны на основном домене без языковых подпапок или Markets. В содержимом можно указать нужные языковые страницы.
